nia delivers three separate IRIS services in the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, City and Hackney, and Haringey.
IRIS is a GP training programme that started as a research project to identify the difference having a dedicated advocate providing training to GPs and in-house support within GP surgeries can make to a doctor’s capacity to better identify and support/signpost women experiencing domestic violence to wider support services. Ultimately, IRIS aims to improve the health care response to domestic violence and abuse.
IRIS is a collaboration between primary care and specialist third sector organisations specialising in domestic violence and abuse. IRIS was identified as good practice in The Lancet in 2011.
Based in North East London, nia work with women and girls who have experienced domestic and sexual violence. If you are not eligible for our services, there are other organisations who can help you.
When I was overwhelmed and about to be drowned with problems on after another, nia took me to the shore. I owe my present confidence to you and I owe my willpower towards my aspirations, to you. You gave me my lost self-confidence back to me.”
