Reclaim the Night: 25 November is the United Nations (UN) day to end violence against women and girls and you will often find that on the Saturday night nearest to that date, women’s groups have organised a march called “Reclaim the Night”. This is a march that highlights that women should be able to go about their business in the streets at any time of day or night and be safe in doing so. This march began as a reaction against police advice to women to stay indoors at night or only go out accompanied when Peter Sutcliffe was raping and murdering women during the 1970s in Yorkshire.
